Cabot Estate Vineyard
Our estate vineyard is near the town of Orleans, in the Klamath River valley, Humboldt County. The cooling and temperature moderation of the ocean, combined with the warmth of being in a coastal inland valley. allows us to produce wines that are ripe in fruit, yet balanced and complex. This vineyard site is located on Whiteys Gulch slope, known for more than 100 feet of shale and schist rock. This northwest slope, benefits from the cool breezes that our down this drainage on warm afternoons. We long admired and dreamed about owning and planting this vineyard for years. It took 5 years of attempting to convince the owners to sell us this rocky slope, but they finally conceded and agreed to sell. After two years of land preparation and design, we planted 2.7 acres of own rooted Syrah vines. Clones Syrah Noir and Estrella River were chosen for the long loose clusters and small berries. The bottom, rockiest section was chosen for small amounts of amounts of Zinfandel, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Viognier. We were proud to construct our winey building on the top of the property, giving us beautiful views of the vineyard and valley below. We farm this property organically and with a no till cultivation program.
