Our vision for Brut Zero is creating exceptional sparkling wines from old and mature vines, dry farmed, single vineyard sights that showcase their unique terroir. The style is all stainless steel, extended lees aged, low/no dosage.
In 2014, our friend and 30 year vineyard management veteran, Casey Hartlip, gave us an opportunity to purchase fruit from one of the most prized old vine Chardonnay blocks in Anderson Valley. We jumped at the chance to work with such a coveted parcel. Valley Foothills is in the deep(coolest) end of Anderson Valley, Mendocino. The 30 year old block of Wente clone Chardonnay is dry farmed and low yielding, producing wines with great charachter, concentration, and finesse.
After securing this caliber of fruit we knew we needed top sparkling winemaking talent. Thats when Penny Caster came in. Penny immediately recognized the source of the fruit and was excited to work us on creating a style that is pure and focussed.
After 8 years and much anticipation, were proud to release two wines.
The 2016 Blanc de Blanc spent 6 years sur lie and is laser focused, with aromas of rising bread dough and citrus. It exhibits great energy, with its tart lemon curd, green apple skin. bright acidity and structure, followed by a long creamy finish. This 2016 will age beautifully into the next 2 - 3 decades.

Our 2014 Blanc de blanc spent 8 years sur lie. The extended lees aging on this gave this roasted Hazelnuts, brioche, bread dough with its red skin apple, ripe citrus, and almond. Its a bit more relaxed than the 16, with a bit softer more mature flavors and aromas, due to the extra two years on the lees, yet has a great depth and richness and a long finish. this will age easily for 15-20 years.
