Elk Prairie
Elk Prairie Vineyard is located in the Fruitland ridge area in Southern Humboldt County. Located just above the fog line, 9 miles west of the Lost Coast, Pinot Noir ripens very slowly, maintaining great natural acidity, freshness and character. Its almost always the very last Pinot Noir vineyard to ripen in Ca, allowing for cooler temperatures leading up to harvest. The hallmarks of Elk Prairie Pinot Noir are bright red cherry and raspberry, strawberry, orange peel, and woodsy spice.
The first 4 acres of Pinot noir, Martini clone, were planted in 1993, with an additional 3 acres of clones pommard 2, 115, and 777 planted in 1998. This vineyard is tightly spaced and dry farmed. As with all of our vineyards, we adhere to a sustainable, no till cultivation program.
